Acer Aspire 5 series have varying prices, but consumers can distinguish themselves simply by looking at the laptop. Without any sticker on the side that shows that there are differences in the internal, you probably will not be able to see the difference on laptop. All Acer Aspire 5 series has a rubberised plastic shades, pocked with the pattern of the kick-plate-style, and interesting features of the Acer, which is an island-style set-up which does make the button look like floating. Acer Aspire Series 5 has a 15.6-inch, glossy, 1366x768 screen.
There are VGA and HDMI out, gigabit Ethernet, three USB ports, headphone and microphone jacks, a DVD +-RW drive and SD card reader. There's Bluetooth, and although different models use different chipsets, 802.11n supports only 2.4GHz, instead of 5GHz. This is the main model. In fact, all kitted out with 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit is the platform of choice, paired with McAfee, Norton Online Backup, CyberLink PowerDVD 9, NTI Media Maker, Skype, a bunch of game demos (which you can install thanks to Oberon Media annoying), an RSS reader called eSobi and shredder (which is an experimental file deletion program that is safe).
Performance
The Aspire 5552G, for example, running a AMD Phenom X4 II N950@2.1GHz with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. This gives a decent performance advantage over the core Aspire 5742G i3 cousin, but not with the same graphics technology features Optimistic switch, the battery is significantly lacking. Although the battery hit compared to Intel / Nvidia-equipped aspires, clocking in just one hour, 15 minutes and 16 seconds, compared with more than two hours provided by both I3 and I5 Aspire 5742Gs. This test is performed with all power saving features turned off, screen brightness and volume set to maximum and XviD files played back, so that sufficient emphasis on the laptop - use more casual and the battery will live significantly longer.
3DMark06 score of 7414 brought, PCMark05 fared quite well, assessment of 5861, indicating it should be fine for web browsing and office tasks.
Acer Aspire 5552G provides a decent package and good performance. We want longer battery life and a 5GHz radio in there, but less good for that price.
